Creative Camera Club

New Member Guide

The Creative Camera Club (CCC) can trace its roots back to the Lexington Camera Club of the 1930s. Our membership is comprised of photography enthusiasts spanning novice to amateur to professional. We welcome everyone who embraces our purpose: To promote an interest in, and an understanding of, the art and science of photography, for individuals of all levels of expertise.

Annual Print Show

One highlight of Club membership is participation in the Annual Print Show.  For over forty years, the Club has hosted a public gallery displaying members’ print images.  Members can elect to sell their images, with a commission taken by the gallery.  Only paid members who have attended six Club functions by November are eligible to participate.

Tracking Your Participation

Membership has its rewards:  participation in the Club’s offerings – whether attending meetings, participating in competitions or workshops – earns points for the member.  As points are accumulated, members are elevated in achievement Levels. The Club awards a plaque and subsequent achievement rewards as members advance through the Levels program.

Newsletter

The CCC puts out a monthly newsletter. It is emailed to membership and also placed here on the website. The newsletter contains the Club calendar, information to members-only workshops and field trips, samples of members’ work, and much more.

What Does The Club Do?

Club members meet twice a month on the First and Third Thursday s unless otherwise published in the Club calendar.  First Thursday, as the first monthly meeting is called, is an informal gathering designed to give members “hands-on” opportunities to work with one another to learn how to use equipment or new technology / software; to provide mentors and mentoring opportunities for new photographers; and provide workshops, field trips, and the display and critique of images created by members.

Recent offerings include:

  • Arboretum Photo field trip / shoot
  • Carter Caves Photo Shoot
  • Night scenes photo shoot
  • Digital Black & White photography
  • Create a slideshow workshop
The club meeting held on the third Thursday of each month offers member competition (digital images) on alternating months, and programs / presentations delivered by guest speakers.  The Board of Directors selects program topics with broad appeal and publishes them in January’s Newsletter.  Competition topics are selected by the membership and published in August.
