2013 IEEE Robotics Camp Volunteers

For the past 4 years, the IEEE Lexington Section has worked with Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) to present a summer robotics camp free to 5th graders.  FCPS provides classrooms and instructors for the camps and IEEE provides volunteers to assist in the classroom and equipment for the camps.

The camp has grown from one camp with 33 students to 11 camps with 190 students last year.  For 2013 we expect up to 300 students.

To provide publicity for the camps I have photographed every camper, instructor and volunteer and posted the results at 2012 IEEE Robotics Camp.  With the large number of campers, I was not able to provide good coverage in 2012.

IEEE Robotics Camp runs for one week in June, just after the last day of school.  Camp runs from 8:30 am to 11:30 am for 5 days at the middle schools.  The exact date will be set by FCPS based on the number of snow days this winter. We will also have a recognition event at a FCPS high school on Saturday where campers and families, instructors and volunteers are invited for a picnic and robot competition.

I am looking for some volunteers to take photos of the campers, instructors and IEEE volunteers. Photo volunteers will be assigned one or two camps and asked to photograph the activity on at least 2 days for each camp.  Volunteers are invited to the recognition event and will find many photo ops.

To volunteer, send a note to and include your name, phone number and email address..

To work as a volunteer at any FCPS facility you must submit for a background check at FCPS Volunteer.  Allow 2 to 3 weeks for the background check to be completed.
