At the January meeting Jeff Lackey gave a brief overview of the steps for competition image submission. The next 1st Thursday will be a hands on session to cover image prep steps for several popular applications. Kevin MacNaughton presented the member slideshow entitled "Three Castle Gardens in Scotland" with great images from their trip to Scotland. Dr. Hank Deitz was the guest speaker who presented "A Poorly Focused Talk". His presentation from research in the field of computational photography included a study of the point spread function for over 100 lens types which is leading to advances in forensic lens identification, depth information capture and refocus capability. He also showed examples of a method whereby a single conventional SLR camera with a removable green/magenta filter costing less than $1 can, in a single shot, directly capture an analglyph (stereo) image using color to encode left and right views. Dr. Deitz and his students have used their own replacement firmware development kit (CHDK for Canon Hack Development Kit) to completely reprogram Canon Powershot point-and-shoot cameras to completely reprogram these cameras to do new and interesting tricks.
